Blushed Lip or Permanent Lipstick

A cosmetic lip tattoo is a treatment that involves inserting pigments beneath the surface layer of the skin of your lips. It can be done in several styles, from the opaque permanent lipstick, shape-perfecting permanent lip liner, to the sheer pop of color through lip blushing or aquarelle lips.

It can also lighten dark lips and give them a warmer color, and even camouflage scars.

Since permanent makeup isn’t done with tattoo ink anymore but rather PMU pigments, the lip tattoo does not last forever.

The semi-permanent lip color gradually fades and it requires occasional touch ups to stay fresh.

Prepare for Your Permanent Makeup Session2021-11-20T22:49:40+00:00

PRE-PROCEDURE INFORMATION

All permanent cosmetic procedures are a multi-session process. You are required to come back for at least one touch-up visit before it can be determined that your work is complete. Touch-up visits are scheduled at 4-6 week intervals or longer.

Be prepared for the initial color intensity of your procedure to be significantly sharper, brighter, or darker than what is expected for the final outcome. It will take time for this transition based upon how quickly the outer layer of your skin exfoliates.

While these tattooed colors may initially simulate the exact color and tone desired, they will not always remain a perfect match. Tattooed colors are constant, while your own skin color will vary depending on exposure to cold, heat, sun, and circulatory changes. For example, if your skin tans and you had a scar camouflage, your surrounding skin will become darker in appearance than the treated area.

Since delicate skin or sensitive areas may swell slightly or redden, some clients feel it is best not to make any social plans for a day or two following any procedure. It is always best to avoid these procedures within months prior to important life events such as weddings. Procedures may take longer than expected to be complete under some circumstances.

Wear your normal make up or bring your brow pencils to your consult, but you do not have to for your procedure. Please do not wear mascara to an eyeliner procedure.

Any tweezing or waxing should be done at least 48 hours prior to the procedure; electrolysis no less than 5 days before. Do not resume ANY method of hair removal for at least two weeks.

Any eyelash or eyebrow tinting or eyelash curling should be done no sooner than 48 hours before, or two weeks after the procedure.

DO NOT wear contact lenses during or within 48 hours following the eyeliner procedure. Remember to bring your glasses. You may resume wearing your contact lenses as soon as your eyes return to their pre-tattooed condition.

Following the eyeliner procedures, as a safety precaution, we recommend that you have someone available to accompany you or drive you home.

Refrain from the use of alcohol, aspirin, aspirin-containing medications, ibuprofen, or other blood-thinning medications for seven days before and two days after any procedure.

Refrain from judgment-altering drugs for at least 24 hours prior to any procedure. No medication should ever be discontinued without first consulting your physician.

A skin test is offered upon request.

What Does Lip Tattoo Aftercare Entail?2021-11-20T16:21:45+00:00

After the treatment, your lips need some special attention to heal properly.

They’ll go through several stages including swelling (you can relieve it with an ice pack) and peeling, and they’ll fade into a shade 50% lighter than right after the treatment.

The severity of the symptoms depends on how saturated in pigment the lips are.

In any case, you will need to follow an aftercare routine prescribed by your artist for about 10 days.

How Do I Prepare for Lip Tattoo Treatment?2021-11-20T16:20:56+00:00

In order to prepare for the treatment, avoid taking the following medications, substances, and vitamins that cause your blood to thin:

• Aspirin
• Ibuprofen
• Alcoholic beverages
• Caffeine (coffee and tea)
• Fish oil
• Niacin
• Vitamin

Also, avoid exfoliating skincare products and any medications that thin out the skin.

It is vital to take anti-viral medication before your procedure if you’re prone to cold sores.

They can appear due to the trauma of tattooing and affect the healing process.

If you have any conditions or diseases, consult your doctor and check if you are a candidate for the PMU lips treatment. Do not have Botox or fillers at least 6 weeks before the treatment.

How Do I Choose a Permanent Lip Color?2021-11-20T16:20:01+00:00

The permanent lip color can be done in any shade of red, pink, or orange, but since the results last up to 5 years, you want to be sure you’ll like wearing the color for all that time.

That’s why most clients go for subtle, flesh-toned shades that are suitable for any occasion and match any makeup look.

Your artist can help you with the color choice, and you should take their recommendations seriously. They have a sharp eye and an extensive knowledge of PMU color theory, so they’ll be able to match the pigments to best complement your skin tone and undertone.

Note: Having the lip tattoo treatment during your menstrual cycle may increase your sensitivity.

Can I Get a Lip Tattoo If I Have Lip Fillers?2021-11-20T16:19:10+00:00

Yes, PMU lips can be combined with lip fillers, but it’s better to get the lip tattoo first, as it’ll last longer than fillers. But if you already got fillers, wait a while before booking your PMU lips appointment – it takes at least 6 weeks for the fillers to settle.

You should be aware, though, that there’s a small chance of your fillers migrating due to the trauma of tattooing.

Who Isn’t a Good Candidate for Permanent Lipstick Treatment2021-11-20T16:18:31+00:00

Getting PMU lips is not safe for you if you:

• Are under 18
• Are pregnant or nursing
• Are undergoing chemotherapy
• Have hemophilia
• Have major heart problems or a pacemaker
• Have had an organ transplant
• Have uncontrolled high blood pressure
• Have diabetes (consult your doctor, it may be possible)
• Have psoriasis, eczema, rosacea, or another skin condition in the area
• Have an auto-immune disease (consult your doctor, it may be possible)
• Have anemia (pigment may not be retained properly)
• Have a history of keloid scarring or hypertrophic scarring
• Have a history of cold sores
• Take blood-thinning medication
• Take Accutane or steroids

Note: If you have ever had cold sores or herpes on the lips, you will need to take special antiviral medications in the period leading up to your lip tattoo treatment.

These have to be prescribed by your GP. The most common prep therapy is Zovirax or Valtrex for about 2 weeks. Otherwise, the tattooing will make your herpes flare up.

Who is a Good Candidate for a Lip Tattoo?2021-11-20T16:17:05+00:00

Anyone who likes wearing lipstick but doesn’t like the hassle of applying it several times a day. Also, women who want to add some volume to their lips.

The lip tattoo won’t do as much as lip fillers, but it will definitely make your lips look fuller.

A special technique called lip neutralization was designed to warm up the color of melanin-rich lips and even out their tone.

Permanent lipstick is also great for uneven lips. It will hide any shape imperfections and make the lips more symmetrical.
